The platform needed to support more clients, stronger tenant isolation, and a scalable backend foundation, so we redesigned the backend and database, performed migrations, introduced multitenancy, and reinforced security to keep each client's data private and separated.

What had to be solved
Dokutar had grown beyond its original technical foundation. Parts of the system were built across Node and WordPress, which made scaling harder as the client base expanded and the product needed stronger data isolation between tenants.
The core problem was architectural: the backend, database model, and deployment approach needed to support more clients without creating data leakage risk, performance bottlenecks, or operational complexity.
Because the platform handled sensitive tax and process documentation, each client needed strict privacy guarantees. Multitenancy could not simply mean shared infrastructure; it required clear tenant separation, safer data access patterns, and stronger controls around sensitive information.

- Redesigned the backend architecture so the platform could scale beyond its original Node and WordPress-based foundation
- Reworked the database model to support growth, safer data access, and tenant-aware workflows
- Planned and executed migrations from the legacy setup into the redesigned backend foundation
- Introduced multitenancy so multiple clients could operate on the platform with clear separation
- Reinforced security controls to reduce the risk of client data exposure across tenants
- Improved the technical foundation for compliance-heavy workflows, auditability, and future product growth
